Okay, so kudos for Ken Loach in breaking the mould for the latest HMV “My Inspiration” ad by not referring to a film - but using a quote from a Bertolt Brecht poem is wrong on so many levels.

As we already know HMV, Tower records and indeed Virgin have been suffering huge drops in footfall and sales due to the download culture of today’s music buyer. We hear of the launch of newer, faster and more easily accessible music, film, podcasts etc everyday, whether it be through Apple, Nokia or Vodafone.

The HMV fight back against the twin evils of supermarket discounting and internet shopping has started with the opening of the Merry Hill store in Dudley. The technological state-of-the art store, which includes a smoothie bar, digital kiosks and a 3 mobile store within its cavernous 8,000 square feet, could be HMV’s last effort to stay a bricks and mortar packaged entertainment retailer.
