Ready or not here it comes again, resistance is futile.

The reality TV phenomenon that is Big Brother returns to Channel 4 on Thursday and show sponsor Virgin Media is set to churn out some 80 idents off the back of it as part of a multimedia blitz.

Big Brother big surprise

BB Celebrity Hijack
I must admit, I have been moaning about the return of Big Brother for some time, but when I tuned in last night along with just three million other people I was pleasantly surprised.

Big Brother, don’t bother

Posted in Media, Marketing, Digital, Branwell Johnson, Latest reporters' blogs December 17th, 2007 by Branwell Johnson

In the immortal words of Vic Reeves “You wouldn’t let it lie!” Channel 4 are bringing back another Big Brother spin off in January that has all the makings of a programme as fascinating as watching paint dry.

Is Channel 4 cutting its own throat?

Posted in Media, Branwell Johnson, Latest reporters' blogs August 24th, 2007 by Branwell Johnson

It’s brave and bold move by Channel 4 to ditch the reality TV format as entertainment rather than as “observational documentary”, as the broadcaster’s latest press release puts it.

Durden joins the circus

Posted in Advertising, Media, Branwell Johnson, Latest reporters' blogs June 18th, 2007 by Branwell Johnson

So Jonathan Durden is in the Big Brother house. I wonder what has persuaded him to think that it’s a good idea to join the Channel 4 freak-fest that has never shown a concession to age (no disrespect Jonathan)?

Big Brother brings on the sisters

Posted in Media, Branwell Johnson June 1st, 2007 by Branwell Johnson

Big Brother bounces back with a respectable 6.2 million average viewers for the first night, less than the show garnered last year but the channel parades arguments such as that it was up against The Apprentice. First off I’d suggest there is not really an overlapping demographic with Alan Sugar’s show…judging by office and public transport chat I’d say that the crossover is quite small – apart from people in media-land and ad-land of course.

Virgin Media takes on BB8

In a masterstroke to boost its sense of rebellion against more traditional communications brands such as BT and Sky, Virgin Media has taken over the sponsorship of Big Brother 8 (BB8) through the multi-channel sponsorship.

The most successful reality star of all

Posted in Media, Marketing January 23rd, 2007 by Melinda Varley

I was deeply disappointed when I tuned into Celebrity Big Brother (CBB) on Friday. Don’t get me wrong, it’s great that Jade Goody was evicted, but I would really have loved to see the crowd’s reaction to her as she exited the house.

Dragging C4 through Bazalgette’s sewers

Posted in Media January 19th, 2007 by Stuart Aitken

Where to start with the current Big Brother furore? The issue of whether Jade, Jo and the other one’s actions qualify as racism is perhaps best left to other publications. What can be asked here is what responsibility Channel 4 has to the viewing public and the nation as a whole, and what damage has the latest Celebrity Big Brother done to the station’s reputation?
