Who is the wannabe Beckham now?
Posted in General, Advertising, Marketing, Oliver Milman, Latest reporters' blogs December 18th, 2007 by Oliver Milman

How strange that Victoria Beckham, who has been roundly flagged up as an example of our glorification of the pointless, and her ‘England hero’ husband David have effectively swapped places in recent weeks.
Brand Beckham gives Brand McClaren a new lease of credibility

McClaren’s re-appointment of Beckham to the England squad is a win-win situation. With semi-retirement on the horizon and a lucrative deal with Los Angeles Galaxy, it makes sound commercial sense for Beckham to take his bow-out as a professional still in his prime, playing for the England team, whilst getting the opportunity to dance his way to even greater brand eminence on the hallowed Wembley turf.
Brand Beckham in terminal decline

Q. When do you know rats are leaving a sinking ship? A. When you see them sail by on another boat. Gillette looks set to become the latest big name brand to abandon ex-England football star David Beckham, as his descent into mortal ‘has-been’ continues.
Coincidence?
Posted in General, Advertising, Marketing January 12th, 2007 by Stuart Aitken

Back in 2003, David Beckham’s transfer from Manchester United to Real Madrid resolved an awkward commercial conflict. United’s kit was supplied by Nike, while Beckham had signed for life to Adidas for a cool £100 million. Real of course favoured Adidas kit. Until last year LA Galaxy played in Nike kit. This explains why some of the tabloids’ mock ups of Beckham in his new kit have him bearing the Nike swoosh - see the image above which featured in The Sun. Imagine how cheesed off Adidas are with that. LA Galaxy have now changed to Adidas kits - and guess what - Beckham’s decided to join them. Coincidence?
