Stevie springs up again

So it looks like Stevie Spring has managed to make it on the shortlist for the top job at Emap.

Spring is apparently not commenting on whether she is going for the high profile and stressful role as Emap chief executive, which is quite out of character for her, as anyone who has seen Spring talk on a panel at conferences will know that she’s not scared to voice her opinions.

But is the former Clear Channel boss a real contender or is it just a publicity stunt to prove her worth? And the timing couldn’t be better for Spring as the news that she had been shortlisted followed the announcement of Future posting a pre-tax profit of £8.6 million in the six months to 31 March, compared with the pre-tax loss of £1.6 million it posted in the same period last year.

She also said the increase was due to the turn around strategy she implemented last year when she started at Future Publishing. But with only a year in Future’s hot seat is it a little too premature for the chief to blow her own trumpet and jump ship to a bigger, albeit listing, one?

And if Emap is looking to appoint within the industry then could senior executives at IPC, Dennis Publishing and perhaps even Condé Nast’s Nicholas Coleridge also be potential candidates?
