Northern Uproar

Former lads’ mag supremo Mike Souter is about to launch a new project – a free men’s magazine – and says it will be a more grown up title than Zoo and Nuts aimed at 18-35-year-old men.
Has anyone noticed that the cities targeted for launch are all northern bastions, save London. That’s Birmingham, Manchester, Edinburgh, Glasgow and Leeds. What’s Souter saying? That Southern softies are too metrosexual for a men’s mag of any kind or too busy reading Metro or listening to their iPods on the Brighton to London line?
Wouldn’t it be great if the new company actually set up its publishing house outside London to give a boost to the regions? Unlikely, I know. As an aside, I just dredged up the first issue of Loaded – shock, horror, no bare breasts at all and Gary Oldman on the cover. When did it all start going tits up – literally – for the men’s mags?
