Lace weaves his latest comeback

Garry Lace has had more comebacks than Rocky Balboa. After the marketing community ruled out seeing a return to agency-land following the debacle at Lowe London he has found a home at Intelligent Marketing.

Lace has been at the centre of a number of “interesting” furores over the past few years. There was the “email-gate” of his time at Grey London and the never-proven rumours surrounding his involvement with a possible AirMiles buyout. The circumstances surrounding his ejection from Lowe remain opaque but are widely believed to be connected to trying to take the Tesco account elsewhere.

And yet he is returning, albeit not quite to the high profile ad agencies of his past but rather to Intelligent Marketing, an agency with several strings to its bow from branding to direct marketing and web design.

Why does it want Lace as chairman? The short answer is probably his contacts book and the undoubted charisma he could bring to a lower profile marketing comms brand. Will contacts still return his calls? I should think so because there is a sneaking admiration for his survivor’s instincts. But what does the world at large think?
