Cadbury’s remixed “Gorilla” can be a hit again

Don’t mess with the formula. A mantra Cadbury seems to have adhered to in its decision to revive “Gorilla” and “Airport Trucks”.
I say, revive, these are to be “remixed” versions of the two hugely successful ads with new soft rock soundtracks. The Gorilla will now be seen hammering away with the same centred intensity to the melodramatic mini-opera that is Bonnie Tyler’s “Total Eclipse of the Heart” while the less memorable, but equally as quirky trucks now race to New Jersey’s far from finest, Bon Jovi with their Springsteen-light hit “Living on a Prayer”.
The ads, in particular the Phil Collins loving “Gorilla” sticksman, caused such a stir when launched; it is easy to see why Cadbury has brought them back. One year on from its original release and refreshed with another instantly recognisable AOR, err, classic, “Gorilla” can work all over again. It is sure to spread like a rash across the internet and build brand buzz just in time for the all important Christmas trading period.
Is this to be an annual event? Shall we expect to see, accompanied by whatever the so-called “Glass and Half Full Production” team come up with next year, the same ads again next year, but with different 80s pomp rock anthems? I vote T’Pau’s “China in Your Hands” for the Gorilla to tap along to and Motley Crue’s “Girls, Girls, Girls” for the trucks to race to.
This one could run and run………..
